These DJ’s Boudain Kolaches are sure to be a hit—perfect for breakfast, a snack, or any time you're craving a warm, savory treat!
Ingredients:
- 1 32oz block DJ’s Boudain Fancy Rice Dressing
- 1 bag Frozen Dinner Rolls (36 count regular or 24 count Texas Size)
- 12 slices Medium Cheddar Cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- Egg Wash (1 egg, 1 Tbsp Milk)
Tools Needed:
- Baking Sheet(s)
- Tea Towel
- Knife
- Parchment Paper
- Rolling Pin
- Basting Brush
- Bowl
Directions:
Night Before:
- Move frozen dinner rolls to the fridge for thawing.
Day Of:
- Prep Dough:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place thawed dinner rolls on the pan, spaced 2 inches apart. (12-14 rolls per 32oz of Rice Dressing)
- Cover with a tea towel and let them rise for 3 hours.
- Prepare Filling:
- While the dough is rising, cut cheese slices in half.
- Slice DJ’s Boudain Fancy Rice Dressing into ½-inch thick slices, then cut them in half again for a good fit.
- Assemble & Shape Kolaches:
- Once the dough has risen, remove the tea towel.
- Flatten each roll with a rolling pin until it’s about 4-5 inches in diameter. (Tip: Place parchment paper on top of the dough to prevent sticking.)
- Place half a slice of cheese on the flattened dough, followed by a slice of DJ’s Boudain Rice Dressing.
- Fold the sides of the dough over the stuffing.
- Tuck the bottom part of the dough under the filling, then roll to seal.
- Second Rise:
- Place the stuffed dough back on the baking sheet, cover with the tea towel, and let rise for an additional hour.
- Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Remove the towel, baste each kolache with the egg wash.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve:
- Serve warm and enjoy!
